The success of the Kia e-Niro and Kona Eléctrico collapses its suppliers
When Hyundai and Kia thought about launching two electric SUVs , they did not think of possible success. It is true that when a brand develops a model it does so thinking of succeeding. However, this is not always the case, although in this case, e-Niro and Kona Eléctrico are causing a furor wherever they go. Therefore, supply problems are already occurring in some countries, as demand is outstripping supply.
As we have been able to know, the demand for Kia e-Niro in United Kingdom is far superior to the offer. For this year, Kia had allocated some 900 units , however, it seems that they have run out in weeks. This situation is also happening with the Hyundai Kona Eléctrico and therefore, the factory is, never better said, that it is smoking. However, the problem is not there, but in battery suppliers , because they can not increase production.
LG and Samsung can not provide enough batteries
The batteries of the Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona Electric are supplied by LG and Samsung . The reason for having these two companies is simple: try to ensure that the supply chain does not break. However, although both suppliers have doubled their production , they are still unable to meet the demand of Hyundai and Kia. In any case, both companies are optimistic about the future, since they expect LG and Samsung to increase the cadence soon.
In the rest of European countries, such as Germany or France , the situation is similar, although not as pressing as in the UK. Customers in this country will have to wait almost a year to get a Kia e-Niro. The next award of this model is planned for 2020 , so if the bottleneck in the factory is not solved, the waiting list could be increased significantly.
In our Country sales of electric vehicles have not yet taken off. It is true that last month they have reached a market share of 1.1 percent , but it remains small. All in all, it will be necessary to see how Hyundai and Kia solve this problem, because they seem to have hit the market fully.
